I’m originally from Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco in Mexico. My parents brought me to the United States when I was nine, hoping to give me a better life and education. Adjusting to a new country, language, and culture was challenging, and I became a very shy teenager.
As life became more difficult, I turned to drugs and alcohol for support. My addiction nearly took my life. I ended up in the hospital with ruptured varices and was diagnosed with Stage-4 Cirrhosis of the liver. My family and I had almost lost hope.
After surgeries and blood transfusions, I was given a second chance. I started my life over, became involved in the A.A. community, and rebuilt myself. Eventually, I returned to my passion and became a bartender, which led me to where I am today.
I share my story not for sympathy, but to show that we can overcome anything. I’m Ronal Meza, sober, strong, and grateful for every opportunity. I own a bartending business and continue to live life to the fullest.
